Myths about Lee's Surrender - A 30 to 45 minute talk covering some of the most interesting aspects
from the books Thirty Myths about Lee's Surrender and More Myths about Lee's Surrender.  An
enlightening lecture telling what really happened at Appomattox--separating myth from fact.  A
highly entertaining talk that is good not only for Civil War groups, but is extremely popular with
civic organizations.

The Confederate Cemetery at Appomattox - A 30 to 45 minute talk about the creation of the small
Confederate Cemetery west of the historical village.   Its founding by the Appomattox Ladies
Association, the community's efforts establish the cemetery, and intriguing biographical sketches
on the soldiers buried there.  Allows the audience the unique glimpse on some of the last soldiers
to die in battle.  Suitable for all groups - A favorite among SCV and UDC groups.

Fields who saw service in the 85th and 188th Pennsylvania Infantry.  Told from the perspective of
1865 while he was stationed on Provost Guard duty in Appomattox.  Hear about the war from the
common soldier - his experiences from the Peninsula to Appomattox - focusing primarily on
Petersburg and the final campaign to Appomattox.  Highly entertaining, great for all groups and ages.

Peter Francisco: A Revolutionary Giant--A real fun talk about the strange kidnapping of Peter from
Portugal as a child, and abandoned on the wharves of City Point (Hopewell), VA. Cared for by Patrick
Henry's uncle. When he joined the Continental Army in 1776, he was 6'6" and 260 lbs. at age 16 .
Francisco was the Sgt. York of the American Revolution. He slayed at least 13 British soldiers, while
being wounded no less than five times himself. Friends with LaFayette, Nathaniel Green, Mad Anthony
Wayne, George Washington, etc. Many humorous incidents of his feats of strength given. Popular
particularly among DAR and SAR groups. Approximately 40 minutes.

The 11th New York Fire Zouaves: Heroes or Humbugs?--The famed Fire Zouaves raised by celebrity
Elmer Ellsworth, had more than their share of mischief. Even after the death of Ellsworth, the were
counted on to carry the field at the Battle of Bull Run. Did they live up to expectations?
Find out what happened to this celebrated unit.

The 85th Pennsylvania Infantry--Raised in southwestern Pennsylvania, this unit participated in the
Peninsula Campaign, the Goldsboro Expedition, the Siege of Charleston, the Bermuda Hundred Campaign,
The Siege of Petersburg, the storming of Fort Gregg, and were engaged the morning of April 9, 1865 at
Appomattox. A very different history from units in the Army of the Potomac

The 5th New York Veteran Infantry, Duryee's Zouaves (1863-65)--discover the highlights and follies
of the unit that was raised to carry on the legacy of Duryee's Zouaves, from their organization, to duties
in Alexandria, to the bloodbath of Cold Harbor. Throughout the Siege of Petersburg, to the triumphant
assault at Five Forks, and final victory at Appomattox, the unit was sometimes flawed but made a
respectable name for themselves. The talk picks out some of the most interesting aspects
of the book We Came To Fight.

146th New York Infantry, Garrard's Tigers--Raised in Oneida County, New York, the unit had the
distinction of adopting Zouave uniforms in 1863. One of the better units in the Army of the Potomac,
they proved themselves on the battlefields of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg's
Little Round Top, the Wilderness--where they unit lost 315 men, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, Petersburg
and Appomattox. Join the ranks of this unit from 1862 to 1865. Talk generates from private research
and the book Campaigns of the 146th Regiment New York State Volunteers.

The Appomattox Campaign--Although relatively under-studied and largely forgotten, the campaign
was the most decisive of the war. Revisit those battles from Five Forks and the fall of Petersburg, to
Sailor's Creek, and the battles of Appomattox. Personalities and incidents covered.
